DNR: Error In Fishing Regulations Causing Confusion

November 22, 2014

(Orleans)– Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say anglers need to be aware of an error in the most recent publication of fishing regulations.

Mike Hawkins of the DNR’s office in Orleans says it pertains to Iowa/Minnesota border lakes, including Little Spirit Lake in Dickinson county; Iowa Lake in Osceola county; Burt Lake in Kossuth county; and Iowa, Okamanpeden and Tuttle Lakes in Emmet county.

Hawkins says the regulations state there is a closed season on walleye, northern pike, catfish and black bass from February 16th until April 25th. Actually, Hawkins says the closed season is in place until May 2nd, in accordance with Minnesota’s regulation.

Hawkins says the DNR regrets any confusion the error may cause. He says it wasn’t caught until after the regulations had been published.
