(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a Buena Vista county trucking company has agreed to make restitution and pay a fine in connection with a fish kill.
DNR officials say Binder Trucking, Incorporated of Rembrandt agreed to cease all illegal discharges into state waters. The company also agreed to pay restitution of 624-dollars for a fish kill along with an eight thousand dollar penalty.
Officials say the action stems from the land application of wastewater from a truck wash in Buena Vista county that resulted in a fish kill.
In other actions, two area cities have agreed to consent orders to correct problems with wastewater facilities.
The city of Ocheyedan agreed to comply with a schedule for improvements and to properly operate and maintain its existing wastewater facilities and to pay stipulated penalites if the deadlines aren’t met. The order is in regard to effluent limits along with operation and maintenance violations.
The city of Sutherland agreed in an amended consent order to comply with a revised schedule to update its wastewater treatment facilities and to pay stipulated penalties if that timeline isn’t met. That action amends a 2004 administrative order regarding wastewater violations in that town.
