(Wahpeton)– Two people were treated for smoke inhalation in a house fire early this (Monday) morning west of Wahpeton.
The Milford Fire Department was called to 1830 190th Avenue around 12:30 a.m.
Upon arriving, Fire Chief Brian Craig says firefighters found heavy heat and smoke on the second floor of the home. Firefighters entered the residence and extinguished a fire in a second floor bedroom.
The home is owned by John Dana and was occupied by his wife and two daughters at the time of the fire. They managed to get out, but Dana’s wife and a daughter were treated on the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were on the scene about two hours.
An investigation into the cause by the Milford Fire Department and the State Fire Marshall determined the probable cause was a candle that ignited some bedding in a second floor bedroom on the west side of the home.
Craig says most of the heat and smoke damage was confined to the second floor of the home, with minor damage to the rest of the home.
Damage was estimated at 40-thousand dollars.
Firefighters were on the scene about two hours.
