(Spencer)– The Executive Director of the Iowa Great Lakes chapter of the American Red Cross says the relief agency has met the expected costs of the Iowa tornadoes, but donations to its disaster relief fund are still needed.
Bill Campbell says previous donations to the fund made it possible for the Red Cross to immediately deploy feeding vehicles, supplies and volunteers into the storm stricken area of northeast Iowa. He says the Red Cross continues to man a shelter there and is still distributing food and clean-up supplies.
The agency is also working with community partners to identify resources that can aid in the long-term recovery of survivors of Sunday’s tornado.
Campbell adds many donations to the relief fund remain in pledge form, and while not yet received by the Red Cross, have been incorporated into the estimate of funds for the Iowa tornado response. Therefore, he says it’s crucial the pledges be fulfilled.
Campbell says the Red Cross will no longer initiate fundraising activities specifically for the Iowa tornado, but will continue to urge the public to donate to the Disaster Relief Fund or to the Iowa Great Lakes chapter.
