Dickinson Supervisors Approve Hiring Deputy Sheriff To Fill Vacancy

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a recommendation from Sheriff Greg Baloun to hire Josh Johnson as a deputy to fill a vacancy in the office.

Johnson, who currently works for the Dennison Police Department, starts his new job June 9th at a salary of $18.17 an hour.

The county will also be responsible for paying Johnson’s training in the law enforcement academy. That amounts to 2,300-dollars. It’s due to wording common in law enforcement contracts. If an officer doesn’t stay with a certain jurisdiction more than a year following the training, the agency that’s hiring the officer away is responsible for the fee.

In other business, the supervisors approved a proposal from K Brand Marketing to design and publish a 28-page booklet for the courthouse dedication ceremony later this summer. The book has a total estimated cost of 7,876-dollars, but with revenue from advertising sales figured in, the county’s cost would drop to 2,876-dollars.

Supervisors also approved a 35,585-dollar changeorder for the landscaping project around the courthouse.
