Tornado Touchdowns Send Residents Scrambling

(Undated)– Numerous tornado touchdowns in the area sent people scrambling for basements and other shelters Wednesday evening. Fortunately, damage wasn’t widespread and no injuries have been reported.

The National Weather Service says the first tornado touchdown of the evening was reported around 5:25 p.m. south of George in Lyon county. There were no reports of damage.

The second took place minutes later…at 5:46 p.m. seven miles northeast of Wilmont, in Nobles county of southwest Minnesota. Some building damage was reported there.

A few minutes, at 5:50 p.m., a tornado touched down about a mile east of Paullina. There were no reports of damage.

A tornado touch down was reported around 6:15 p.m. five miles northwest of Sutherland. Power lines were reported down with widespread debris. A machine shed was also flattened.

At 6:55 p.m. a tornado touchdown was reported three miles southwest of Spencer. Extensive damage was reported to a farm and power lines were down.

Another tornado touched down minutes later…at 7:11 p.m…two miles north of Dickens…where a pole barn was reportedly destroyed.

Possible tornado damage was reported around 7:43 p.m. about two miles south of Wallingford where two out-buildings were reportedly destroyed.

No tornado touch downs and no damage was reported in Dickinson county, according to Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret.
