(Des Moines)– Magellan Midstream Partners has agreed to pay a five million dollar fine for alleged spills from its petroleum pipeline.
The incidents happened from 1999 to 2006 at 11 locations in six states, including Iowa.
Federal officials say the violations include discharging gasoline and fuel oil.
They say the spills were caused by damage from farm equipment and bulldozers, corrosion, leaks and pipeline operator error.
The agreement says the company also will spend 750-thousand dollars to minimize such incidents, and to improve employee training and leak response procedures.
Magellan Midstream operates a pipeline terminal just south of Milford.
