(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Water Quality Commission is accepting grant applications for its annual water quality grant program.
John Wills, Coordinator of the Clean Water Alliance, tells KUOO news applications are being accepted until October 1st, 2008. Wills says any group in Dickinson county that will be working on a water quality project is eligible to apply.
The Dickinson County Water Quality Commission was established in 2001 to provide a steady source of funding. It uses local money as a match for state and federal funding.
18 people representing the county and its ten municipalities serve on the Water Quality Commission which considers the applications. Wills says the commission will meet shortly after the October 1st submission deadline to review and rank the applications. Award recipients will be announced shortly after that.
Will says they’ll be offering two help sessions to assist those applying for grants. One is scheduled for August 26th; the other for September 18th. Details will be forthcoming.
Application forms are available through the Soil and Water Conservation District Office located behind the Pronto Convenience Store in Spirit Lake.
Wills says to date, the program has awarded nearly 840-thousand dollars to groups and agencies in Dickinson county with 40 projects being funded.
