Spencer Man Convicted In U.S. District Court On Meth Charges

(Sioux City)– A Spencer man who conspired to distribute methamphetamine in the Spencer area has been convicted by a jury in U-S District Court following a three-day trial in Sioux City.

25-year-old Eder Noe Sosa-Jimenez was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine; distribution of meth; distribution of meth using a minor; and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

The verdict was returned after about seven hours of deliberation.

Sentencing is set for January 9th, 2009 in Sioux City.

Sosa-Jimenez faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of live imprisonment along with a four million dollar fine and atleast five years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

Evidence at the trial showed that Sosa-Jimenez was involved in a conspiracy to distribute meth from between November 20th, 2007 through April 17th, 2008.

Prosecutors say Sosa-Jimenez brought the meth from Las Vegas to Spencer, where he distributed about three pounds of the drug.

Undercover authorities on two occasions purchased meth from Sosa-Jimenez. During one of the transactions, authorities say a minor was present.

Search warrants executed November 27th on three lcoations turned up cash, a scale, baggies and meth.
