MnDOT To Discuss Hwy 60 Improvements

November 22, 2014

(Windom, Mn.)– While most of the work to expand Highway 60 into four lanes in northwest Iowa is complete, that isn’t the case for the highway on the Minnesota side of the border.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting to present plans for improving Highway 60 from south of Worthington to St. James Thursday, October 16th at the Windom Community Center in Windom. An open house will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a presentation at 6:00 p.m.

MnDOT says the Highway 60 improvements will be implemented in three stages.

The first includes safety enhancements between Windom and St. James. The work, which is currently underway, includes improved signing, lighting and striping to inform drivers of the transitions from four lanes to two lanes. A turning lane for trucks is also being added at one location.

The second phase is the four-lane expansion of Highway 60 between Bigelow at the Iowa border and Interstate 90 at Worthington. Construction on that is slated for 2010 to 2013.

The third phase will complete the four-lane highway between Windom and St. James. Work on that won’t start until after the second phase is done in 2013.
