DNR Schedules Meetings To Talk About Local Groundwater Availability

November 22, 2014

(Orange City)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will hold two informational meetings next week to talk about future water availability from the Dakota Sandstone Aquifer, which provides groundwater to a good deal of northwest Iowa.

Results of a study that models how water usage at different volumes affects the availability from the aquifer will be presented.

The DNR has been analyzing the geology, hydrology and water use from the aquifer. DNR officials say it’s part of an overall effort to determine water resources for the future as usage increases.

They say the meetings will describe the research that’s been done, initial implications of the findings and how the assembled information and models can assist water interests in the sustainable development of water resources.

Meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, October 21st at 1:30 p.m. at the city hall in Orange City and at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 22nd in the music room at the Marathon Community Center in Marathon.
