(Arnolds Park)– Meeting Thursday, the Dickinson County Water Quality Commission awarded more than 263-thousand dollars in grants toward water quality projects in Dickinson county and its watersheds. The funds are to be matched against state and federal grants.
Grants awarded for the fiscal year ending September 30th, 2011 include:
*$14,907 to the East Lake Improvement Association for “first flush water quality sampling”
*$51,200 to the East Okoboji Beach Homeowners Association for a bioswale construction project
*$100,000 for Silver Lake and Iowa Great Lakes watershed protection projects
*$15,000 to Center Lake Improvement and Protective Association for lake improvement projects
*$50,000 to the Dickinson Soil and Water Conservation District to construct a rain garden
*$28,000 to the Dickinson Soil and Water Conservation District for a lakeshore revegetation project
*$4,280 to the Dickinson County Conservation Board for an intern and naturalist.
In addition, the Water Quality Commission will contribute $29,352 toward the Cleanwater Alliance.
The commission was established in 2001 to provide local match money often required for many state and federal environmental grants.
