(Spencer)– The Northwest Aging Association Foundation has dedicated its board room in honor of Mike Zenor, long time board member and advocate for the agency.
Zenor served on the agency’s board of directors for over 18 years, several as chair. After resigning from the board he became chairperson of the newly established Northwest Aging Association Foundation. Zenor was instrumental in assisting the foundation procure tax exempt bonds to build a new office building at 714 10th Avenue East in Spencer. He also provided legal counsel and guidance when the foundation sold the property on Grand Avenue.
Zenor provided countless hours of legal service to clients of Northwest Aging Association who did not have funds to pay for legal guidance. He provided pro bono services to Northwest Aging Association in the form of legal counsel on a variety of issues.
In 2002, Zenor was presented a Shining Star Award by Governor Vilsack at the Governor’s Conference on Aging for his work with Northwest Aging Association and his advocacy efforts on behalf of older Iowans.
The foundation has also established the Mike Zenor Scholarship Fund, available to staff of Northwest Aging Association who wish to further their education as it relates to the aging population. Tax deductible contributions are now being accepted for the scholarship fund.
Zenor’s family was in attendance for Wednesday’s dedication ceremony and the unveiling of a plaque recognizing Mike’s 25 years of service to the Northwest Aging Association.
