Clay Co. Crash Ruffles Some Feathers

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Some turkeys on their way to become part of someone’s Christmas dinner had a rough ride early Wednesday in Clay county.

The Sheriff’s Office says 53-year-old Douglas Laumbach of Galva was driving a 2000 International semi tractor pulling a trailer at the intersection of 150th Avenue and County Road B-14. Deputies say Laumbach was turning onto 150th Avenue when the rear of the semi trailer went into the ditch, causing the rest of the trailer and the tractor to roll onto the passenger side.

Laumbach didn’t report any injuries, and authorities say very few turkeys were lsot.

The birds were on their way to the Sara Lee Foods processing plant in Storm Lake.

15-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the semi tractor owned by G & T Trucking of Schaller; the trailer owned by Sara Lee Foods sustained an estimated 10-thousand dollars in damage.

The mishap took place around 12:30 a.m.
