(Spencer)– A traffic stop in Clay county Sunday resulted in traffic and drug charges against a Worthington man.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle in the 3000 block of Highway 18 shortly before midnight Sunday. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy saw an occupant spraying something in the air. Both rear windows were down and the deputy detected an odor of burned marijuana.
Upon investigating the deputy determined the occupants had allegedly been smoking marijuana in the vehicle and were attempting to cover up the smell by spraying an air freshener.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a small amount of what’s alleged to be marijuana, along with a marijuana grinder.
The driver, 22-year-old Travaris Pickens of Worthington, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; failure to have a valid drug tax stamp; no proof of insurance and excessive speeding.
Pickens was booked into the Clay county jail and was later released after posting a one-thousand dollar cash or surety bond.
Clay county authorities say their investigation continues and additional charges are expected.
