(Spencer)– A Spencer man whose case in a deadly hit-and-run was deleayed by an apparent suicide attempt has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
James Prather was sentenced Thursday to 25 years for vehicular homicide and five years for causing serious injury by vehicle while intoxicated. The sentenced will run consecutively.
Prather was accused in the death of Brian Beck of Spencer last summer. Beck died after his motorcycle was hit from behind by a sport utility vehicle.
Prather was to be sentenced Tuesday, but the hearing was delayed after police found him unconscious in his home. Clay County Attorney Michael Houchins says Prather applied a series of medicated patches in an attempt to harm himself.
