Area Residents Reminded To Be On The Lookout For Spring Scams

November 22, 2014

(Undated)– Area law enforcement agencies are reminding the public to be on the lookout for some familiar scams as the spring and summer months approach.

Officials say it’s the time of the year when they start getting complaints about door-to-door sales representatives trying to sell items by using strong arm tactics, intimidation, free samples and so on. In most area communities, door to door sales people need to have a permit and are required to register at city hall. Ask if they have a permit and if they don’t, contact your local police.

Officials say some sales reps intentionally target the elderly or those living alone.

And they say blacktop specialists looking to unload excess material from another job is also a common scam this time of year, along with various home repair scams. Officials say it’s best to do business with licensed, local contractors and to get references.

They add you should not be pressured into signing any contracts or agreements until you’ve had a chance to research terms, costs and facts.
