Corridor Reps. Meet With Congressional Delegation

November 22, 2014

(Washington, D.C.)– Representatives of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation met today (Thurs.) with members of the local congressional delegation during their annual trip to Washington, D.C.

Senator Chuck Grassley was among those the group met with. Due to a very busy schedule, Grassley says he was only able to meet with the group about 10 minutes. During that time, he says one of the issues he heard about was Highway 86 between Highway nine and the Minnesota border. Grassley says there’s a possibility funding could be included in the annual appropriation bill or in the five year authorization bill, which is up this year.

Grassley, who says he’s against earmarks, says Iowa should get its fair share of them if they’re going to be allowed to continue. He vowed to continue to advocate support for Highway 86.

Grassley isn’t as optimistic about funding this go-round for a wastewater treatment facility in Superior, another project the group is lobbying. Grassley says the extent to which four projects the group is advocating come from the same subcommittee, the less of a chance they’ll have of getting all of them funded…whereas the other two projects are going through the Transportation Committee.

The delegation is also seeking assistance on a project to separate storm and sanitary sewers in Spencer; for work on an industrial park in Spencer; and dredging at Storm Lake…among others.
