(Spencer)– Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Health now say they’re treating a cases of measeles in Clay county as an emergency public health threat.
Spokewoman Polly Carver-Kim says they’re especially concerned since they don’t know where or who exposed the child to measles. As a result she says they’re presuming there are others in the community either with measles or already exposed to measles.
Another vaccination clinic will be held Saturday (April 18th) from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Spencer Medical Arts Building, 116 East 11th Street in Spencer.
Anyone exhibiting symptoms should contact their physican immeidately. Do NOT go to a doctor’s office, emergency room or walk-in clinic until arrangements have been made to see your healthcare provider in a place and manner that won’t potentially expose others to the disease.
Symptoms include a fever, cough, red or pink eyes, a runny nose and a rash.
