National Volunteer Week Under Way

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– We’re in the midst of National Volunteer Week, being observed this week.

Joan McCulloch, Director fo the Dickinson County Voluntary Action Center, says it’s a good time to recognize and thank those in the community who volunteer their time and services to make this an even better place to live.

She says the theme for this year’s designation is “celebrating people in action.”

While Dickinson county has been fortunate in the past with the number of people volunteering, McCulloch says there’s always room for more. And she says getting involved is very easy. McCulloch says all you have to do to learn about the various volunteering opportunities that are available is to visit a searchable website. It’s www.1-800-volunteer.com.

On another note, McCulloch says the Dickinson County Voluntary Action Center has received special recognition for it’s participation this past year in a national volunteer program called “Make A Difference Day”. She says they received a letter and certification of appreciation from “Hands On Network” and U.S.A Weekend. She says it’s an inspiration to start thinking about a project for this year’s Make A Difference Day, October 25th, 2009. Anyone with ideas should contact her office at 336-4444.
