Lakes Regional Healthcare Thanks Volunteers

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Officials with Lakes Regional Healthcare are taking advantage of this, National Volunteer Week, to thank those who help them out.

The hospital’s volunteer group, Lakes Regional Healthcare Volunteers, has more than 300 members. Of those, about 100 work in the hospital in various capacities such as in the gift shop, visitor’s reception desk, patient reception desk or as a messenger.

Individual volunteers choose the area or areas they prefer to work.

People can volunteer as little as one four-hour shift per month or several times per month.

They can also work outside the hospital by sewing stuffed animals for children; coordinating grants and scholarships; calling and checking on local residents that live alone and participate in the Telecare program; and working with hospice patients and their families.

LRH Volunteers President Alida Milliken says they’re extremely thankful for their volunteers, adding they’re always looking for more. Those interested in helping out should contact Milliken at 832-9825.
