Bridges Bay Developer Ordered To Pay $35,000 Civil Penalty For Environmental Violations

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The developer of Bridges Bay Resort, BBR LLC, doing business as BBR of South Dakota, LLC, has been ordered to pay a 35-thousand dollar civil penalty for environmental violations.

A lawsuit filed by the state in 2007 alleged the Sioux Falls developer repeatedly released sediment into East Lake Okoboji while building the Bridges Bay Resort.

The State Attorney General’s Office announced today (Tuesday) District Judge David Lester also ordered the developer to ensure any future work adheres to low impact development and storm water pollution prevention plans. The plans are to be submitted to the DNR field office in Spencer within 30 days of the entry of the consent order.

Those plans include restoring the shoreline with native vegetation, installation of rain gardens and soil quality restoration.

In addition to the civil fine, the developer was also ordered to pay $122.92 in court fees.

The Bridges Bay Resort includes an indoor water park and condominiums. It’s located on the East side of East Lake Okoboji.
