(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday adopted an ordinance regulating cage fighting in the city.
After considerable discussion, the council voted four-to-one to waive the second and third readings of the ordinance. Councilman Steve Balm cast the no vote.
Another motion to adopt the ordinance passed on a three-to-two vote, with Balm and fellow council member Clyde Ihrke voting no.
A motion setting permit fees at 275-dollars for cage fighting events passed four-to-one, with Balm voting no. The revenue generated by the permit fees is to cover the cost of having police officers on hand to make sure the various regulations are being followed.
The ordinance won’t take affect until 30 days after publication, meaning a May 30th cage fighting event won’t have to comply with the regulations.
