(Spirit Lake)– Very minor damage was reported in a boat fire this (Friday) morning in Spirit Lake.
Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news Spirit Lake firefighters were called to the Louis Jewell residence at 402 14th Street, which is on East Lake Okoboji.
Kollasch says a boat was smoking as it was in the process of being put in a hoist. He says the fire was pretty much out when firefighters arrived.
Kollasch says the fire was the result of an electrical malfunction in the boat’s control panel.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 8:00 a.m. They were there about a half-hour.
Kollasch reminds boat owners to make sure their crafts have been checked over and are in good operating condition before launching them for the season. Things such as motors, bilge pumps, electrical systems and so on should be checked over and tuned up.
