Suspect In Estherville Stabbing Case Faces Attempted Murder Charge

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– Estherville police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a stabbing of another man this past weekend.

Estherville Police Chief Eric Milburn says officers were called to Avera Holy Family Hospital Saturday morning regarding a man that had been stabbed with a knife.

The victim, 24-year-old Xavier Marquez of Estherville, told officers he had been involved in an altercation and had received numerous stab wounds. Marquez was able to identify the suspect.

Following an investigation and interviews, police arrested 27-year-old Lyle Clarken of Estherville. He was charged with attempted murder, willful injury and going armed with intent. Clarken was booked into the Emmet county jail on a 47-thousand dollar cash or surety bond, which was posted Sunday.

Authorities allege Clarken stabbed Marquez about 13 times.

Estherville police say it stemmed from an earlier altercation between the two men.

The Estherville Police Department was assisted in its investigation by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office.
