Investigation Continues Into House Fire That Injured Armstrong Man

November 22, 2014

(Armstrong)– A house fire this past Saturday in Armstrong sent one person to the hospital.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says firefighters and deputies were called around 9:23 p.m. Saturday to a house fire at 809 “A” Avenue in Armstrong.

Upon arriving authorities encountered flames coming from the front of the home. The fire had spread throughout the structure.

While extinguishing the blaze, firefighters and a deputy located a man in the back of the home. An Armstrong firefighter and a sheriff’s deputy braved thick smoke and flames and pulled the man from the home and began lifesaving measures.

The man, who’s name hasn’t been released, was taken by ambulance to Holy Family Hospital in Estherville and was life-flighted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

An investigation into the blaze is underway, but Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens says as of right now there is no reason to believe it was the result of anything suspicious.

No other injuries were reported.

The home and most of its contents were destroyed.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
