ISU Extension Reorganizes

November 22, 2014

(Primghar)– The woman who heads up the new position as Director for Iowa State University Extension’s Region one which includes Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux counties has been on the job since August 1st.

Cheryl Heronemus says her goal for now is getting to know the county councils and county staff. Part of her duties is to work with the elected nine-member council in each of the six counties. The councils consider local needs for ISU Extension educational programs.

Dickinson county has hired a program coordinator, while Clay county is considering it. Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux counties are considering sharing staff.

Heronemus says it’s important to point out programs are continuing even though the extension service is undergoing a reorganization.

Heronemus works out of the O’Brien Extension Office in Primghar.

She began her ISU extension career in 1977 as a 4-H program aid in Sioux county. She held various positions with the 4-H youth development program until 1994 when she became Sioux County Director. She added Lyon county to her role when she became that county’s interim director in January, 2009.

Heronemus and her husband live on a farm near Orange City and Alton where they raise beef cattle.
