(Spencer)– Two cases of H1N1 virus have been confirmed in Clay county.
That word late this (Friday) afternoon from Colette Rossiter, Clay County Public Health Nurse.
Rossiter says the cases were confirmed by the University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory after the two patients were tested at Avera Spencer Family Care.
Rossiter says both patients are young adults and both have mild symptoms.
Rossiter says once H1N1 is confirmed in an area, not all cases will be sent for testing as it’s reasonable to expect that other people have been exposed to the virus.
Officials are once again urging anyone with influenza symptoms to stay home until they have recovered. Symptoms include sudden fever with aches, headaches, cough, and/or lung congestion.
Children should NOT be sent to school or daycare if they exhibit symptoms. Don’t go to work if you’re sick.
The Iowa Department of Public Health has begun distributing H1N1 vaccine to the state’s 99 counties, but initial shipments were extremely limited and will only be available to priority groups.
