Sibley Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Meth Charges

(Sioux City)– A Sibley man has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to meth charges.

48-year-old Richard Kress entered the plea last week to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine within a thousand feet of a park; distributing meth within a thousand feet of a park; using a telephone to facilitate the distribution of methamphetamine; and interstate travel in racketeering.

At his plea hearing, Kress admitted that between August 2004 and April 10th, 2007 he and others manufactured and distributed methamphetamine at his residence, which is within 1,000 feet of Central Park in Sibley.

Kress also admitted that he and others purchased pseudoephedrine pills, match books, iodine crystals and other items used to manufacture methamphetamine from stores in Worthington, Minnesota.

A sentencing date will be set after a pre-sentence report is prepared.

Kress remains in the custody of a U-S Marshal in the meantime.

He faces a possible maximum sentence of atleast five years and up to 80 years’ imprisonment; a four million dollar fine and atleast eight years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; Iowa State Patrol; Worthington, Minnesota Police Department; Osceola County Attorney’s Office and the Tri-State Drug Task Force based in Sioux City.
