Local Hospital Lifts Visitor Restrictions On O.B. Unit

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—A local hospital is lifting visitor restrictions on it’s Obstetrics Unit.

Officials with Spencer Hospital say the unit is once again open to visits from family friends.

Jeanette Hasley, Director of Obstetrical Services at Spencer Hospital, says the fact that many people in the area have now been vaccinated against H1N1 and that the number of influenza cases have declined allowed them to lift the restriction, which had been in place since October.

Hasley points out though that the restrictions could be put back in place if there’s a resurgence in flu activity. Many are predicting a third outbreak of H1N1 by the end of this month or in February.

So far, Clay County Public Health Nurse Collette Rossiter says more than five thousand individuals have been vaccinated against H1N1 by her office. She says most of those are children.

Rossiter adds vaccine is still available and that her office is holding vaccination clinics Monday evenings through February 8th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Community Health Office on the second floor of the Spencer Medical Arts Building.
