(Spirit Lake)– The man who oversees development of recreational trails in Dickinson county will be stepping down this spring.
The Dickinson County Trails Board recently accepted the resignation of Coordinator Steve Litts, effective this coming April 1st.
Litts has served in that capacity since January 1st, 2006. He says the board was brand new at that time. Litts says the primary goal then was to establish an organizational structure and a funding stream, which he was successful in doing.
At that time, Litts says there was about 19 miles of recreational trails in Dickinson county with 42 miles of signed bike routes on county roads. Today, he says there are 108 miles of trails in Dickinson county along with the same 42 miles of signed bike routes along county roads.
Litts attributes the success to several factors. He says they were able to develop a process for prioritizing and partnering with cities and individuals and that the Friends of the Dickinson County Trails has increased its base from about 100 to well over 500.
Litts says he’s looking forward to doing some traveling with his wife in his spare time.
He adds he’s committed to finishing up a few things yet before his resignation becomes effective this coming April 1st. Litts says he’s willing to wokr with the new trails coordinator once one is hired to help make the transition as smooth as possible.
Litts also thanked everyone who’s worked with him over the years.
