(George)– A northwest Iowa school district has been awarded a grant to replace a school bus model 1993 or older with a new one that meets 2010 EPA certification or reimbursed for installing new pollution control devices on older buses.
George-Little Rock is one of seven districts that will receive $38,000 each from Iowa’s Bus Emissions Education Program, or BEEP.
The program is a collaborative effort to reduce childhood exposure to diesel exhaust. It’s objective is to reduce emissions in school bus fleets.
Funding for the program comes from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ state allocation from the Environmental Protection Agency. EPA funds in turn came from the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act Program under the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
