(Spencer)– Several area businesses received special recognition earlier this week at the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation’s first annual Business Recognition Luncheon.

The Small Business Excellence Award for businessed with 30 employees or less was presented to Thinix, a division of R & D Industries of Milford. The company manufactures computer software, including a touch-enabled user interface for Windows that is preinstalled by manufacturers of tablet computers.

The Large Business Excellence Award for businessed with more than 30 employees was presented to Ranco Fertiservice of Sioux Rapids. The company manufactures fertilizer handling and spreading equipment.

And the Entrepreneur of the Year Award went to Pat McGill of Arnolds Park, a professional speaker who presents workshops on change, leadership and relationship building.

The Corridor requested nominations for the awards. The nominations were given to a judging committee comprised of business and community leaders throughout the Corridor’s four-county service area. Award criteria was based on contribution to the local economy, recent expansion, new product or service, customer service, management practices and community involvement.
