Freshman Lawmaker Receives Key Appointments

(Des Moines)– A local man who will be a freshman lawmaker when the upcoming session of the Iowa Legislature convenes in January has been appointed Vice Chair of a couple of key committees.

House Speaker-elect Kraig Paulsen announced today (Mon.) State Representative-elect Jeff Smith, a Republican from Okoboji, has been appointed Vice Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee and Vice Chair of the Local Government Committee.

Smith will also serve on the House Commerce and Economic Growth/Rebuild Iowa committees as well as the Administration and Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee.

Smith officially becomes State Representative when current Represenative Mike May’s term expires at midnight December 31st. May did not seek re-election.

The Iowa Legislature convenes January 10th, 2011.
