Crash On Hwy 86 At Iowa/Minnesota Border Injures Woman

(Spirit Lake)– A single-vehicle crash this (Wed.) afternoon on Highway 86 at the Iowa/Minnesota border sent one person to the hospital.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 76-year-old Christine Steffen of Lakefield was southbound when she failed to negotiate a curve. The 1995 Buick LeSabre she was driving crossed the southbound lane, struck a sign and went down a steep embankment into a field.

Steffen was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake where she was treated for a minor injury.

Moderate damage was reported to the vehicle.

The crash took place around 2:15 p.m.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Jackson and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Offices, the Iowa State Patrol, Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and the Lakefield ambulance and paramedics.
