(Emmetsburg)– One person was injured Tuesday when a car and a semi collided on the south Cylinder curve on Highway 18 in Palo Alto county.
The Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Ashley O’Connor of Buffalo Center was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala westbound when she lost control while attempting to negotiate the curve. The vehicle collided with an eastbound Peterbilt semi tractor/trailer driven by 51-year-old Craig Merrill of Emmetsburg.
The car slid down the side of the trailer and bounced off the rear wheels of the trailer. It then slid across the highway and came to rest in a snow bank.
O’Connor was taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital by the Emmetsburg ambulance where she was treated for undisclosed injuries.
The car O’Connor was driving was totaled; $10,000 in damage was estimated to the semi.
The crash took place shortly before 3:00 p.m.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Cylinder Fire Department and the Emmetsburg ambulance.
