(Spirit Lake)– A major winter storm is wreaking havoc for travelers across the region.

In addition, the wind is expected to pick up later tonight (Monday) and continue through the day Tuesday, causing considerable blowing and drifting snow and very poor visibility.
Temperatures will also be falling during the day Tuesday with dangerous wind chills.
A number of schools throughout the region let out early today (Mon.).
Area law enforcement personnel report numerous accidents. Fortunately no serious injuries have been reported so far.
A two-vehicle collision on Highway nine just west of the Jackson “Y” east of Spirit Lake blocked both lanes of traffic in that area for awhile earlier this (Mon.) afternoon. No injuries were reported in that mishap.
Numerous events scheduled for this (Mon.) evening have either been postponed or cancelled.
