November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Two men face drug charges following a traffic stop last (Thurs.) evening at Barb’s Corner near Everly.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 18 and County Road M-27.

As part of an investigation during the stop, the Emmet County K-9 unit was deployed and made a positive indication for the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle. Upon further investigation it was determined the driver, 35-year-old Benjamin MacMillan of Milford and a passenger, 24-year-old James Shaughnessy of Sioux City, were allegedly in possession of about a quarter-of-a-pound of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of about $11,000.

MacMillan and Shaughnessy were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver…methamphetamine…a class “B” felony; and failure to affix a drug tax stamp…a class “D” felony. Both men were booked into the Clay county jail on bond of $100,000 each.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is being asked to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at (712) 262-3221 or through the text-a-tip link at www.claycountysheriffsoffice.
