Proposed 2011-’12 FY Budget For Okoboji Reflects Increase In Levy

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– Years of lean spending have caught up with one lakes area city, which says it will be forced to increase its levy for the upcoming fiscal year as a result.

Okoboji City Administrator Dennis Daly says the city needs to restore it’s revenue stream as expenses keep going up, adding “the city is trying to repair its budget after being real lean the last four years”. Daly says the proposed budget includes a total increase in the property tax levy, including debt service, of a little more than 92 cents per thousand dollars of valuation.

Daly says a need for the city to recoup the balances in some of its revolving fund accounts is also behind some of the increase. He adds the proposed budget does not include any major projects in the city.

A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held at the Okoboji City Council’s next regular meeting, March 8th.
