(Spirit Lake)– Freezing rain and sleet Sunday, accompanied at times with lightning and thunder, left trees and power lines in the Iowa Great Lakes in a thick coat of ice. It also sent some motorists sliding into ditches. But fortunately no serious injuries were reported.
The ice caused some localized power outages where it caused tree limbs to fall on top of power lines. Officials with Alliant Energy and Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative say no widespread outages were reported. However they say there could be additional outages whenever the wind picks up again…possibly later on today (Monday).
Additional snow is in the forecast the latter part of the week, along with much colder temperatures.
