Local Agencies To Participate In Special Enforcement Program

November 22, 2014

(Undated)– A number of law enforcement agencies throughout the region, including the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, will be involved in a special traffic enforcement program (STEP) over the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day holiday period.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says the special enforcement effort will focus on speeding, seatbelt usage and impaired driving.

The special enforcement project will run from March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day) through March 20th.

Officials say there were three traffic fatalities in Iowa during that same timeframe last year.

A similar enforcement project conducted November 23rd-29th last year netted more than 19,000 traffic violations. More than a thousand were for seatbelt usage, more than 7,000 were for speeding, 2,900 were for equipment violations, and nearly 2,300 were for insurance violations. There were 823 crashes with 12 fatalities during the same period.
