March Designated Red Cross Month

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The month of March has been designated “Red Cross Month” through a proclamation signed by President Barack Obama.

Cindy Voss, Executive Director of the Iowa Great Lakes area chapter of the American Red Cross says they’re using the month to make the public more aware of the services the disaster-relief agency provides.

Voss adds the local chapter will be putting on a variety of activities in conjunction with the month. They include a joint venture with local schools for a picture and essay contest; updated training sessions for CPR instructors; a babysitting clinic; and a “point of entry” event Thursday, March 31st at the Dickinson County Courthouse. A lunch will be provided.

Voss says the Red Cross is also using the month of March to kick off it’s “Heroes” fundraising campaign.

She adds that she’s also available to speak to area service clubs about the Red Cross.

And when it comes to the American Red Cross and the catastrophies in Japan, Voss says as of right now the local chapters in Iowa are providing financial assistance, adding they have no representatives in the disaster-stricken country as of right now.

Donations to assist earthquake and tsunami victims may be made through the American Red Cross by visiting their website at www.americanredcross.org or by calling the local chapter’s office in Spencer at (712) 262-1574.
