(Washington, D.C.)– Representatives with the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation visiting Washington, D.C. are getting a lukewarm response to funding requests from various projects from atleast one member of the state’s congressional delegation.
U.S. Senator Charles Grassley says congress has done away with earmarks for such funding requests, which in the past would automatically be forwarded to an appropriations bill. Now, he says, various groups such as the Corridor will need to take their requests for funding to a much more competitive arena…through grant applications.
Corridor representatives have been promoting several projects to the congressional delegation, including Highway 86 between Highway 9 and the Minnesota border; Highway nine between Spirit Lake and Estherville; and various other infrastructure projects throughout the Corridor’s four county service area.
