(Sioux City)– An Estherville woman has pleaded guilty to federal drug charges in U.S. District Court in Sioux City.
50-year-old Cynthia Koons was convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
At a plea hearing, Koons admitted she conspired to distribute more than six pounds of methamphetamine from 2002 through April 2010 in Emmet, Dickinson and Cherokee counties.
Sentencing will be held after a pre-sentence report is complete.
She faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum of life imprisonment, a 20 million dollar fine and 10 years up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.
Koons had previously been convicted of two felony drug offenses: possession with intent to deliver in September, 2001 and failure to affix a drug tax stamp in August, 1998.
The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa State Patrol, the Cherokee, Denison, Estherville and Spirit Lake Police Departments, and the Clay, Crawford, Dickinson, Emmet and Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Offices.
