Clay County Fair Queen Candidates Announced

(Spencer)– Seven young women from Clay county will be vying for this year’s title of Clay County Fair Queen in a contest scheduled for Sunday, April 3rd.

Candidates include 15-year-old Lynde Harken of Spencer, daughter of Kimberly and Brian Harken; 16-year-old Ayla Sennert of Spencer, daughter of James and Ofelia Sennert; 16-year-old Kelsey Plueger of Spencer, daughter of Chad and Michelle Plueger; 17-year-old Bradi Baschke, daughter of Roger and Ann Baschke; 17-year-old Kalei Roskens of Spencer, daughter of Scott and Kari Roskens; 16-year-old Cassandra Galm of Spencer, daughter of Paul and Brenda Galm; and 17-year-old Jennessa Helm of Spencer, daughter of Rhonda Helm and Wayne Helm.

Candidates will be judged on personality, attitude and awareness, leadership and citizenship, contribution to the community, overall appearance, charm, poise and self-expression.

Each contestant will receive a gift package from area businesses, and all of them will be eligible for a $500 scholarship for full-time enrollment or a $250 scholarship for part-time enrollment at Iowa Lakes Community College.

The 2011 Clay County Fair Queen will receive numerous prizes, including a thousand dollars in cash. She will go on to represent the fair at various events this summer.

First runner-up will receive several prizes as well, including $500 in cash.
