November 22, 2014

(Sibley)– A Sibley man was taken to the hospital Tuesday when a vehicle he was driving collided with a stop sign, a fence, two vehicles and a house.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Jeff Monier of Sibley was driving a 2005 Ford pickup eastbound on 5th Street when he blacked out due to a medical condition, causing him to lose control. The vehicle went through the intersection with 2nd Avenue and jumped the curb on the northeast side of the intersection. It then ran over a stop sign, traveled across two driveways at Lewis Drug, and went through a wooden fence. It then collided with two parked cars, finally coming to rest after hitting a house at 228 5th Street.

Monier was taken by ambulance to the Osceola Community Hospital with possible injuries. No other injuries were reported.

$1,800 in damage was estimated to the pickup he was driving; damage to a 1964 Chevrolet Impala was estimated at $500; $1,000 in damage was estimated to a 1985 Oldsmobile; the house and fence, owned by Paula Gamez of Sibley, sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage. The stop sign, owned by the city of Sibley, sustained an estimated $200 in damage.

The incident took place shortly before Noon Tuesday.
