(Undated)– Area fire chiefs are issuing their annual reminder about the dangers of grass fires.
Now that the snow is gone and with a lot of dry, dead vegetation, officials say the potential for grass fires is increasing. They urge anyone doing any open burning to keep a close eye on things so they don’t get out of control.
Several area fire departments, including Milford, Arnolds Park-Okoboji and Wallingford, were called to grass fires over the weekend. None of them were said to be very large in size or serious in nature.
Officials say the grass fire danger will remain high until the region receives some significant rainfall and the vegetation starts to green up.
