(Milford)– A grass fire earlier today (Tues.) on Highway 71 near 250th Street south of Milford burned about an acre and-a-half of land.
Shane Langholz, Captain of the Milford Fire Department, says firefighters found several areas of the east ditch on fire and the blaze was spreading to a pasture area when they arrived.
Langholz says it’s believed the fire was the result of an overheated bearing on a piece of farm equipment.
Area fire chiefs are urging anyone contemplating doing any open burning to notify the Communications Center first at 336-2525, and to keep a close eye on it.
Officials say the grassland fire index will remain very high until some measurable rain falls. A good chance of rain is in the forecast for the latter part of the week and the upcoming weekend.
No injuries were reported in today’s (Tues.) blaze.
