(Orleans)– Gillnetting operations got underway today (Monday) at the Spirit Lake Fish Hatchery in Orleans.
The facility is now open from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. daily until the hatching is complete in early to mid May.
Officials say the best time to view the operations is at 8:00 a.m. when female walleye are stripped; 6:00 p.m. when the fish are sorted; and at 7:00 p.m. when male walleye are stripped. Officials say that schedule is subject to change depending on workload.

Officials say the northern pike operations have already been completed and that the spawn was extremely successful.
