(Des Moines)– Iowa has been awarded $13 million in federal transportation funds to help repair roads damaged during severe weather in 2010.
The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded two grants to Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Transportation will use one $2.8 million grant to fix or rebuild federal roads in Des Moines and Lee counties that were damaged during storms in May 2010. The state will use $10.2 million to repair or reconstruct federal roads in 73 other Iowa counties damaged during severe storms between June and September 2010. Locally, those counties include Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth and Sioux counties.
The grants were awarded through the Federal Emergency Relief Program.
The funds were announced in a news release issued by Senator Charles Grassley.
